JAPANESE TRANSLATION SERVICES

As the world’s second largest developed economy, Japan is considered a potential market for foreign companies investing in Asia. More than that, its cultural richness and diversity draws the attention of millions of visitors every year, creating major opportunities for tourism and other businesses. As a company with deep cultural knowledge and a network of experienced native Japanese translators, GTE Localize brings you best-in-class Japanese translation services across a wide range of industries.

FACTS ABOUT Japanese LANGUAGE

ABOUT THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE

    • Japanese is the national language and the most widely spoken in Japan. All education, media, business, and government documents are in Japanese.
    • It is estimated that there are about 128 million  Japanese speakers all over the world.
    • Japan is a relatively small country, however, the facts about dialect diversity are quite surprising. They are divided into 2 main groups which are Eastern and Western Japanese.
    • Since each dialect differs from each other not only in terms of pronunciation, but also grammar and vocabulary, native Japanese is always preferred when it comes to Japanese translation.

LINGUISTIC FEATURES

    • The modern Japanese writing system uses a combination of logographic kanji and syllabic kana.
    • Traditionally, Japanese is written in columns going from top to bottom, with columns ordered from right to left. Meanwhile, modern Japanese is written horizontally and read from left to right.
    • Written Japanese normally does not require spaces between words, with the full stop (。) and comma (、) having the same function as their equivalents in English.
    • For Japanese texts in translation, counting characters is the standard method because there is no clear algorithm to find out where one word ends and the other starts.
