WHAT IS LINGUISTIC QUALITY ASSESSMENT (LQA)?

Linguistic Quality Assessment (LQA) is the process of evaluating the linguistic quality of a translated document according to a set of pre-standardized criteria. Upon reviewing the document, our linguists report all errors, classify them based on the given criteria, and calculate the overall point for the translation on a standard LQA form.

Linguistic Quality Assessment (LQA) is a key step in a successful translation project. It brings about numerous benefits for your translation:

  • The criteria set before the project function as a checklist to make sure you don’t miss any possible mistakes during the evaluation process. This contributes directly to the final quality of the translation in terms of accuracy and consistency.
  • This process allows linguists to review and correct their translations quickly with recommendations from the reviewers and identify the areas that need improvement or additional training for future projects.
  • The LQA step also plays an important role in controlling the service quality of the translation vendors you are working with. By quantifying the translation quality, you can easily check whether the services they provide meet your expectation or not.

HOW DO WE PERFORM THE LQA STEP?

Step 1: Set standardized criteria for the project

The LQA criteria for each project might be different due to its requirements or complexity. Our team will analyze your document to give you a tailor LQA form.

  • In general, the form contains a variety of types of linguistic errors which are categorized as Minor, Major, or Critical with their weighting figures respectively. Scores of all segments will be added together to give the final score of the task.
  • If the final score is lower than a predefined threshold, the translation is considered as “Fail” or “No pass”.
  • You can ee LISA QA Metric – a default QA model for reference.

 

Step 2: Perform the LQA step

Our LQA experts review the given translation. They detect, categorize the errors and give recommendations on how to fix them.

The overall score from this step will decide whether a translation is a “pass” or “no pass”. If it passes, you can require your provider to correct all the errors. If it does not, you should request them to perform additional proofreading or re-translate.
